So the task is to host a cuppa with yourself. So if is the first time you've been over, welcome. How do you take your tea?
My name is Cat, and I live in suburban Tasmania. My hubby is a FIFO worker and we have 4 kids under 7. So it isn't unusual for me to placidly sip on a green tea whilst changing a nappy, walking the dog, hanging washing, blogging and practicing yoga all at the same time. (Yes, my middle name is Superwoman, now that you ask).
I'm am supposed to talk a little about my inspirations. At the moment? Survival! But one day, when the kids have grown up a little I will be able to list a wonderfully diverse range of people and places without blinking an eye. I do wistfully waste much time reading other beautiful blogs. Local is Lovely, Foxslane and Are We There Yet? all cement my view that my place is in the country. Preferably somewhere warmer than where we are now (note to self. Stop reading That Summer Feeling).
Heike's blog makes me want to pack all 4 kids into a caravan (along with my favourite copy of Zen for Mothers) and dash across the Nullarbor in hot pursuit. Subscribing to I Heart Organising means that I have loads of great ideas about getting my shit together. One day...that will also be the time to finish designing and formatting this blog. Once organised I shall use some of Pia Jane's ideas to make our home beautiful. Mrs Woog makes me giggle, and Jodi makes me think. I like the way Pip thinks.
I love love love spicy food. My favourite tibble would have to be a G & T. My favourite place to be is on my mothers farm. Unfortunately it's a couple of hundred km to the nearest Indian restaurant and the local pub only sells gin by the UDL. But it is in the subtropics. My other favourite place to be is out on the water, rowing or coaching rowing. (Usually without the G & T). My dad was a journalist, my mum a teacher. I had a sister, have a brother and spent the first 6 years of my life sailing round the world on a yacht with my family. If you spot any typos please contact mum or dad as I was homeschooled until year 2. I wouldn't homeschool my kids in a pink fit.
That's me. Where is your favourite place to be??
Oh - we ate at a great indian restaurant on our one night in Launceston. I don't recall the name, but it was super yummy and spicy!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know people FiFoed in Tasmania. Seems there are FiFoers everywhere in this country.
Thanks for the cuppa :)
Was the restaurant Pickled Evenings? They're yummy!! Yep. FIFOers are everywhere! He goes as far as PNG. There are quite a few down here. Lots go to WA - they find it cheaper to live here and pay for flights than to live in Perth and FIFO from there!!
Deletehehehehe - Cat you make me laugh! That was such an interesting post about you! WOW! Sailing on a yacht with your family - awesome!! And I don't think I could home-school my kids full time either!! Great post! Bring the kids and come visit us in FNQ anytime ok!!
ReplyDeleteWe have actually been talking about getting to know the Atherton Tablelands a bit so you never know your luck!!! I'll come during winter :)
DeleteSame goes for you and yours - if you're ever in Tasvegas!!
What a great post. loved hearing about your life. I would never (read could never) home school either. I'm also a country girl at heart. Thanks for sharing your cup of tea :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah! I'm looking forward to reading everyone else's!! You can take the girl out of the country and all that.....
DeleteThanks for the giggle Cat! Nice to learn some more about you. Growing up on a yacht - what a fantastic experience!
ReplyDeletePleasure Bec!! I distinctly remember going to school in year 3 with these crazy kids who lived in houses! Go figure...
ReplyDeleteNo Cat! Don't stop reading That Summer Feeling. Gather the kids and get up here and we'll have G&T's at sunset.
ReplyDeleteP.S I am just itching to go to Tassie so badly. I've been on about it for years but I feel it getting closer.
I wouldn't dream of it in reality!! In fact as the weather turns it's likely to be the only sunshine I get. :( hence, we are planning a trip out your way soon!! Feel free to drop into Tasvegas for a G & T. A long way to come, but we do have some local gin brewed here which is rather fantastic!!
DeleteLovely post Cat. I have a few friends who homeschool and I think they are A-mazing but I could not do it.
ReplyDeleteIt's been lovely reading along the last few weeks and it's thanks to you that I started doing the 52 project so thank you.
:) Bec
Why thank you Bec. What a lovely lady you are!! I'm pleased you are doing the 52 project - we really should thank Jodi !!
DeleteBy the way I think homeschoolers are amazing too. I know my limits and despite being a teacher I just don't think I could...
DeleteWow! You're certainly busy! Really lovely post, so interesting, would love to read more about your childhood.
ReplyDeleteThanks Shelley, yep. Never a dull moment! I've never really thought about writing about my childhood. I seem to be so busy with kids childhood!!
DeleteI think it's great you are starting on this blogging adventure. It's such a great way to record those special moments! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeanette, it really all started as a way to communicate with friends and family who are scattered far and wide! It's been amazing to be able connect with wonderful bloggers world wide too!
DeleteHi Cat, just want to say Great Stuff - I am planning to do Pip's blogging course in May & I hope to be able to provide something of interest to others as well. I am formerly from Tassie, we did the "tree change" from W.A. & moved down to Rosebery (bought a home very cheaply in 2001). Sadly, I had to sell up after 4 years & move back to the mainland - but I get very homesick for Tassie quite often. Would be great to make a new friend, so I will keep up with your activities on here & wish you loads of good luck with your future endeavours.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Zoe`
Hi Zoe, thanks for popping by! You will thoroughly enjoy the Blog with Pip course. You will also make new friends like the lovely ladies above! Go for it!!
